Afellay : An Arsenal Star In The Offing

In recent days, the media has been abuzz with rumours linking the Dutch dynamo with a move to the Emirates. The question on every lip is what a Barcelona reject would add to the gunners rank? Ibrahim Afellay, a Dutch footballer of Moroccan descent moved over from PSV Eindhoven in 2011 to Barcelona for a low fee owing to the fact that his contract at the Dutch club was fast winding down. Since his move to the Spanish giants, he has found it very hard to pin down a regular berth owing to a plethora of reasons; presence of huge competition and injuries. In Afellay’s preferred role, he had Xavi and Iniesta while on the wings, there was Pedro and Villa providing stern competitions. The fact that all his main competitors were Spanish internationals did not help his push for a starting berth.
