Arsenal has a great asset in their back up goal keeper Vito Mannone. The 24-year-old Italian shot stopper has done very well this season in the absence of Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny. So well in fact that he is likely to run a good chance of taking over the first team spot for a good bit while his competition recovers.
Mannone is older than his 22-year-old counterpart, and in a recent interview with Corriere della Sera on October 11, 2012 as quoted by TalkSport, he laid out his intentions to supplant the Pole as Arsenal’s first choice between the sticks:
It’s good at Arsenal, I want to be number one here.
Then [I want to] return to Italy and play in Serie A, perhaps with AC Milan, my favor...
