Arsenal might be lacking in striking options, but manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to use the last few days of the transfer window to strengthen his defensive options, and is ready to make a move for Ajax and Netherlands defender Gregory van der Wiel.
The 24-year old right-back has for long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United rumoured to be interested in the player. However, with the Blues having now signed Cesar Azpilicueta, Arsenal have jumped up as frontrunners for his signature.
