Gunners captain and talisman Robin van Persie has received the 2012 Footballer of the Year award by the Football Writers’ Association.
The 28-year-old pipped Manchester United’s forward Wayne Rooney (2nd), Rooney’s team-mate Paul Scholes (3rd) and Fulham’s Clint Dempsey (4th) to the prestigious Premier League personal accolade.
Van Persie’s impressive tally of 34 goals in all competitions has not only won the striker the PFA and FWA player of the year award, but he has been the driving force for the Gunners resurgent run up the table where they are close to the illustrious third place in the league which means automatic qualification into the Champions League.
