It was a night of two halves but not an Arsenal of seasons past as the Gunners stomped past French club Montpellier to earn 3 points and their first Champions League match away from home this season.
The match briefly began with a shaky start as defender Thomas Vermaelen fouled Younes Belhanda just on the edge of the penalty box and conceded a penalty awarded by the Spanish referee, Carlos Velasco Carballo. Belhanda found the net in the center as goalkeeper Vito Mannone veered to the right, unable to regain his central position in time to make a save. Thus the score so early in the game was in Montpellier’s favor.
