Arsenal’s plans to build a tower block for students close to the Emirates have been given the go ahead after the club’s appeal was successful, however residents who live close-by are not at all pleased with the news.
Speaking to the Islington Gazette, journalist Henry Mance, who lives in Benwell Road said
It’s an unbelievable decision. The inspector’s report talks about ‘quirky’ architecture but doesn’t even mention that residents have opposed the scheme. It’s brash and metallic but the real problem is the height. It’s completely at odds with the houses in the area.
At the time of the initial rejection, resident Daniel Burt had said
The height was just completely out of character with the local area. It would have dwarfed the stadium which is just ridiculous. This is a fantastic result but we obviously fear there may some kind of appeal.
