Fabio Capello, who had previously stated that he would only select players who were playing regularly, has stayed true to his word by omitting Andrei Arshavin from the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Portugal and Azerbaijan which are set to be played later this month.
Arshavin, who has only played 104 minutes for Arsenal this season [with one goal and two assists as well as winning a penalty in Arsenal’s Capital One Cup game against Coventry City], has struggled to get a place in the side and with his contract due to expire in the summer, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the player.
