Thomas Vermaelen is looking forward to the new season as he expects this season’s squad to achieve great things in the coming months. Speaking ahead of the last pre-season friendly in Cologne, Vermaelen believes that his year’s squad is coming along nice and looking much stronger with the acquisition of Olivier Giroud, Lukaz Podolski and Santi Cazorla. Having trained with the whole team for close to two weeks now, he is confident that the team is well prepared for next Saturday’s opening match at the Emirates. After the calamitous start to last season, the Arsenal fans would not be happy if history repeats itself and such encouraging words from Vermaelen will calm a lot of nerves after the less than impressive pre-season Asia tour.
Vermaelen was the captain during the tour and is probably a shoo-in for the captaincy should Robin Van Persie leave...
