West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere believes that Arsenal were wrong to get rid of him during the summer transfer window. He will attempt to prove to his old club what they are missing when the Hammers face off against Arsenal this Saturday.

The game will feature two team’s who have started the season in less than ideal fashion facing off against each other. Both team’s have lost their two opening Premier League fixtures and are hungry for points.

Arsenal will go into the encounter as the slight favorites. While Unai Emery’s side have lost their two games played thus far (against Manchester City and Chelsea), they faced two tough opponents and there were plenty of positives to take from their games as they aim to rebuild this season under a new manager.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side on the other hand have been poor during their two defeats against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

During the 2-1 defeat against the Cherries last weekend, Wilshere was one of the few players in Pellegrini’s side who actually worked hard.

The game against the Gunners will be an emotional one for the 26-year-old Wilshere. He is a product of the Gunners youth development system and had spent 17-years with them before he left this summer to start a new chapter of his career with West Ham.

Wilshere had hoped to remain at Arsenal this season, so much so that he was willing to take a pay-cut. However, the new manager Emery did not give him assurances over regular first-team football. The arrivals of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi also meant that it would be unlikely that Wilshere would have played much had he remained with Arsenal.

While speaking ahead of West Ham’s clash against Arsenal, Wilshere highlighted that he will try to prove to his former club what they are missing out on.

As reported by Football.London, he said in the club’s match-day program for their game against Bournemouth: “I’ve got to try and block all the emotion out,”

“If someone would have said we’d get three points from the opening two games, we’d probably have taken that, so we need to get today’s game out of the way and get a win and get our season going, then we can go to the Emirates.

“First of all, I’ve got to concentrate on football and I quite fancy our chances. I obviously know them really well.

“They’ve got a new manager, but I know the players, so hopefully it’ll be a good time to play them.

“It’ll be a strange one for me as I was never able to go there and play when I went out on loan as you can play against your parent club, but it’s one I’m looking forward to.

“It’s down to me to prove a point to Arsenal that they were wrong to get rid of me.”
