Manchester United manager plays stupid over van Persie

It was widely reported that van Persie was off to United yesterday. I called rubbish on that story when it first appeared but what I certainly wasn’t expecting was Ferguson’s comments which followed later in the evening.  He said
We have made a bid and they’ve been trying to negotiate with other clubs.  I don’t have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit.  We’re not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal. It’s difficult to say why they’re operating this way.
I don’t know what they’re thoughts are, because they’re not giving anything away.
You don’t know Alex? Well how about because the club have made it clear that they don’t want to sell their star player? How about they don’t want to strengthen a rival? How about they wouldn’t even want to sell you a virus?
