An awful defensive effort placed Arsenal in an unbelievable 0-2 hole after only 10 minutes of play, and the home side showed that it still has a long way to go in terms of responding to adversity with an uninspired comeback effort for the remaining 80 minutes. Though Thomas Vermaelen’s rocket header off a Tomas Rosicky cross halved the scoreline midway through the first half, Arsenal could not get the equalizer as the visitors proceeded to park the bus.
Reaction: With a chance to go eight points clear of rivals Tottenham at home against a relegation-threatened opponent, Arsenal wasted a tremendous opportunity.
