The Frenchman has produced some moments of brilliance and is highly rated by not only Wenger and his peers but also the French national coach Laurent Blanc. Yet the injury-prone Abou Diaby was restricted to only five first team appearances last season after a series of niggling injuries that have continually prevented him from making an impression in the Gunners lineup.
The tale for the promising Frenchman’s career took a sour twist that fateful day against Sunderland in 2006 that saw their defender Dan Smith produced a horrendous tackle on Diaby that left the talented midfielder with a severely fractured ankle.
