The unappreciated rise of Alex Song in the present Arsenal team under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger is one of marvel. With an incredible return of 16 assists in 46 games played in the just concluded 2011-2012 season, it’s hard not to take notice of what might be the making of a midfield supremo. His goal return of 1 all season was not great, but his willingness to get forward providing an extra body of worry for opposing defences, and providing his team with some push especially in a season where they either faced a lot of shut-out or had conceded goals and required urgent attacking pressing to come back into games, must be applauded.
Key to his game is his canny at intercepting and tracking attacking forays from ghostly positions into the 18 yard box. He has evolved into a box to box midfielder even when the consensus states that he is a defensive midfielder. I...
